Just last week we learned that the first test footage of Avatar 2 was recently screened at the Siggraph computer graphics convention in California. Other than that, any real updates on the anticipated sequel have been scarce. But today comes news of another cook getting in James Cameron's kitchen as The Wrap has learned that War of the Worlds and The Black Dahlia writer Josh Friedman has been hired to work on the script for the sequel to the international 2009 blockbuster starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, both expected to reprise their roles for the developing sequel at 20th Century Fox. More below!

Cameron has stationed himself in New Zealand to work on Avatar 2, which may hit theaters in 2015, but there's no guarantee that will stick. This won't be the first time Friedman has played in Cameron's universe since he also worked on the short-lived TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Though the series was canceled, Friedman did a nice job of expanding the Terminator universe and expanding the mythology, so hopefully his work with Cameron will yield some positive results. Fans are certainly ready to head back to Pandora, so hopefully the film gets up and running very soon.
