For a small, mostly handheld, low budget film, Chronicle made quite the impression in 2012. The superhero film's director, Josh Trank, has been fielding tons of offers all year and eventually signed on to helm the Fantastic Four reboot, while writer Max Landis is working on a Chronicle sequel and has his own directorial debut lined up. But the movie's breakout actor, Dane DeHaan, has had a pretty solid year as well, and now The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb has tweeted that DeHaan will be playing Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Looks like DeHaan is well on his way to being a household name. Read on!

DeHaan was listed in the first wave of actors testing for the part a few weeks ago, but then a new group of actors came in for testing because the character was reportedly reworked to be more good looking and athletic as opposed to dark and brooding. Looks like everyone was finally able to settle on DeHaan for their final decision, and maybe that says something about what kind of personality writers Kurtzman and Orci are giving the character this time.

We'll have to wait and see what kind of Harry Osborn we get from this take on the franchise and how he'll distinguish his performance from James Franco's star-making work in Raimi's trilogy, but we think DeHaan is a great choice for the part. Right after Webb confirmed the casting, DeHaan himself tweeted about his excitement in scoring the role, so we wish him the best of luck and hope that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) can wrap up a few of those annoyingly loose threads present from the end of the first installment. Thoughts?
