There's already a trio of new cast members joining The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Jamie Foxx is the new bad guy Electro, Shailene Woodley is taking the role of Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan was the most recent addition as Harry Osborn. They'll be joining Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy for director Marc Webb, and another cast member from the first film has been confirmed to return as well. Speaking with "The Late Late Show" in Ireland (via Comic Book Movie), Martin Sheen revealed that he will be reprising his role as Uncle Ben in the sequel, shooting in February.
Sheen didn't really have any details, but he said:
"They've called me back, I don't know what the part is gonna be, but I'm going to be 'Uncle Ben' once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot it in February." |
Now for those who haven't watched The Amazing Spider-Man (or know anything about the superhero), there's spoilers from here on out. In the franchise reboot, Webb dispatched with Uncle Ben, which is a pinnacle turning point for the webslinger. Does that mean Uncle Ben will return in dream sequences like in Sam Raimi's film trilogy? That doesn't really seem to fit with Webb's style from the first film. More than likely, since the sequel is supposed continue the so-called "untold story" of Spider-Man's origin, Uncle Ben will be seen in flashbacks, maybe involving Parker's parents. Also, you can pretty much assume that if a dead Uncle Ben is being utilized, the still-living Aunt May played by Sally Field will be back. Stay tuned.

I was hoping Uncle Ben would be back. I've always been a big fan of his rice.
