If the dialogue of any given blockbuster is hard to translate into another language, then it's time for an explosive, adrenaline-fueled montage to sell the flick. That's exactly what Disney has done with this Japanese trailer for The Lone Ranger, a film featuring an American hero who might not be very well known to the Asian population. Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer each get their heroic moments, but most of the trailer is spent with the action set pieces, gunshots, explosions and very little dialogue. I gotta say though, it's not a bad way to sell the film here in the US for those just looking for summer action. Watch!

Here's the Japanese trailer for Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger via YouTube:

"There come a time, Kimosabe... When good men must wear mask..." Never take off the mask. Looks good?

The Lone Ranger is directed by Pirates of the Caribbean franchise helmer Gore Verbinski and written by Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio and Justin Haythe. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption. The Lone Ranger arrives on July 3rd.

  1. Yeah, this is a tough one to get aboard. Even with the POTC pedigree, it looks very strange.
