Everyone knows the Shakespeare tragedy of star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet, but this time it's "Downton Abbey" writer Julian Fellowes bringing the story to life. However, it doesn't seem like he's done much to make the material more engaging, as the first trailer for the adaptation starring Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth looks to be pretty dry and boring. Maybe the presence of Paul Giamatti, Ed Westwick, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Damian Lewis will make it better, but as of now, it doesn't look like it can shake a stick at Baz Lurhmann's contemporary adaptation. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Carlo Carlei's Romeo & Juliet from Digital Spy:

Italian filmmaker Carlo Carlei directs this adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic Romeo & Juliet, adapted by "Downton Abbey" writer Julian Fellowes. Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth play the star-crossed lovers whose love blossoms despite coming from two rival families: The Montagues and The Capulets.the film which is currently slated to hit theaters in the United Kingdom on July 26th, but does not yet have a distribution deal in the world wide. Stay tuned.
